Pigmentation

  • What is Hyperpigmentation ?

Hyperpigmentation is when areas of the skin become darker than the surrounding, creating an uneven skin tone and dullness.

  • What causes Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is commonly caused by excess production of melanin, the pigment responsible for our skin, hair, and eyes.

  • What types of Hyperpigmentation is there?

    Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation:

This usually occurs after injury or trauma to the skin, such as acne, cuts, or burns. The skin responds by producing more melanin resulting in dark spots.

    Melasma:

Often referred to as 'pregnancy' skin, melasma appears as dark patches on the face, particularly on the cheeks, forehead, upper lip and nose. Hormonal changes, sun exposure and genetics can be a contributing factor.

    Sunspots & Age spots:

These are flat, tan or brown spots that typically appear on areas of the skin which have been exposed to the sun.
